Raipur District, in the Raipur region is a capital of Chhattisgarh with its administrative headquarters located at Raipur city. Raipur District is situated in the fertile plains of Chhattisgarh Region. This District is situated between 22⁰ 33' N to 21⁰ 14'N Latitude and 82⁰6' to 81⁰38'E Longitude. The District is surrounded by District Bilaspur in North, District Bastar and part of Orissa state in South, District Raigarh and part of Orissa state in East and district Durg in West. The district occupies the south eastern part of the upper Mahanadi valley and the bordering hills
in the south and the east. Thus, the district is divided into two major physical divisions, Viz., the Chattisgarh plain and the Hilly Areas.
Main source of income in the district is from the agriculture sector and per capita income is Rs. 31,105. Total cropped area is 2,25,177 in hectares and the forest area is 5,459 in sq km (2015).
